The stainless steel plate has a smooth surface, high plasticity, toughness and mechanical strength, and is resistant to corrosion by acids, alkaline gases, solutions and other media. It is an alloy steel that does not rust easily, but not absolutely rust-free. Stainless steel plate refers to a steel plate that is resistant to corrosion by weak media such as atmosphere, steam and water, while acid-resistant steel plate refers to a steel plate that is resistant to corrosion by chemically corrosive media such as acid, alkali, and salt. Stainless steel plate has been around for more than a century since it came out at the beginning of the 20th century.

Common models in 300 series stainless steel

304 stainless steel is a general-purpose stainless steel, which is widely used in various equipment and parts because of its good corrosion resistance and formability.

When 301 stainless steel is deformed, it will show obvious work hardening phenomenon, so it is suitable for various occasions with high strength requirements.

302 stainless steel is essentially a variant of 304 stainless steel with higher carbon content, which can obtain higher strength by cold rolling.

302B is a kind of stainless steel with high silicon content, which has high resistance to high temperature oxidation.

303 and 303Se are free-cutting stainless steels containing sulfur and selenium, respectively, and are used in applications where free-cutting and high surface finish are mainly required.

303Se stainless steel is also used to make parts that require hot upsetting, because under these conditions, this stainless steel has good hot workability.

304L is a variant of 304 stainless steel with lower carbon content, which is suitable for occasions where welding is required. For stainless steel with less carbon content, when it is close

to the heat affected zone of the weld, the precipitated carbides are reduced; on the contrary, if the precipitated carbon content is high, it may lead to intergranular corrosion (welding erosion)

of stainless steel in some specific environments.

304N is a nitrogen-containing stainless steel, and nitrogen is added to increase the strength of the steel.

305 and 384 stainless steels contain high nickel and have low work hardening rates, making them suitable for various occasions that require high cold formability.

308 stainless steel is used to make electrodes. The nickel and chromium content of 309, 310, 314 and 330 stainless steels are relatively high, in order to improve the oxidation resistance and

creep strength of the steel at high temperature.

309s and 310S are variants of 309 and 310 stainless steel, the difference is that the carbon content is lower, in order to minimize the precipitation of carbides near the weld.

330 stainless steel has a particularly high resistance to carburization and thermal shock resistance.

316 stainless steel and 317 stainless steel contain aluminum, so the resistance to pitting corrosion in marine and chemical industry environments is much better than that of 304 stainless

steel. Among them, 316 stainless steel variants include low carbon stainless steel 316L, nitrogen-containing high-strength stainless steel 316N, and free-cutting stainless steel 316F with higher

sulfur content.

321, 347 and 348 are stainless steel stabilized with titanium, niobium plus tantalum and niobium respectively, suitable for welding components used at high temperatures.

348 is a kind of stainless steel suitable for nuclear power industry, which has certain restrictions on the combined amount of tantalum and diamond.

Composition of Stainless Steel

Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. Stainless steels are steels containing at least 10.5% chromium, less than 1.2% carbon and other alloying elements. Stainless steel’s corrosion resistance and

mechanical properties can be further enhanced by adding other elements, such as nickel, molybdenum, titanium, niobium, manganese, etc.
